NEW YORK STATE ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF A NEW WEBSITE TO ADVANCE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE STATE AND THE NONPROFIT SECTOR The new site will make it easier for nonprofits to carry-out their missions and do business with New York State government.
The New York State Division of the Budget today announced the launch of a new website - www.ny.gov/nonprofits<http://www.ny.gov/nonprofits> - which will enhance the relationship between New York State government and nonprofit organizations. The website will serve as New York’s preeminent source for information impacting the nonprofit sector and as a portal to streamline the myriad interactions between the State and its nonprofit partners.
New York’s 100,000 nonprofit organizations account for more than 18 percent of all private sector jobs in New York State, employing more than 1.25 million New Yorkers. Nonprofits do vital work on behalf of New York State and its residents through more than 6,000 State contracts.
The new website will reinforce relationships between the State and its nonprofit vendors and strengthen the nonprofit sector so that its organizations are better positioned to carry out their missions.
Features of www.ny.gov/nonprofits<http://www.ny.gov/nonprofits> include:
A step-by-step guide to help New Yorkers establish a nonprofit organization, including how to file for tax exemptions and links to the appropriate forms and instructions.
Instructions for nonprofits to prequalify for State grants. The Grants Gateway system allows nonprofits to complete many of the administrative tasks prior to the application process and also ensures that the State is partnering with qualified, responsible nonprofit organizations.
Information on new State initiatives, such as the $100 million in total funding for the Nonprofit Infrastructure Capital Investment Program.
A news portal where nonprofits can find the latest updates and guidance on issues of vital importance.
The new website is the latest initiative of the Division of Budget’s Nonprofit Coordination Unit. This groundbreaking office was created by Governor Cuomo in 2014 to support nonprofits and strengthen their partnership with the State. The Unit works to address issues that are of importance to the State’s nonprofit sector and ensure that nonprofits are providing the best level of service to residents. This includes simplifying grants management, managing special projects, and providing coordination and support when State-funded nonprofit organizations are in crisis. The Unit is also available to assist with questions from nonprofits about State regulations, new initiatives or other concerns.
NYSERDA:
Basically, the grant is to conduct outreach to industry, business, institutions, residential customers about NYSERDA economic development related initiatives. I believe university/colleges would be the perfect applicant as we have 1) built-in relationships with industry/business and 2) infrastructure to conduct outreach (communications, meeting space, etc.). Because the outreach personnel (identified in the PON/RFA as ROCs) need to reside in the region where they conduct outreach, a consortium of colleges may be a good approach. There are staffing requirements listed on page 4 of the PON. http://www.nyserda.ny.gov/Funding-Opportunities/Current-Funding-Opportunities/RFP-2570-Regional-Economic-Development-Outreach.aspx
